Blue Card EU – Minimum wage limit for 2019

In 2009 the law implementing the High-Level Qualification Direction introduced a new residence permit, the Blue Card EU.

There are three basic requirements that must be met in order to apply for a Blue Card EU:

  • There must be a local employment contract
  • The foreign university degree must be recognized in Germany
  • The applicant must receive a certain minimum annual gross salary

The salary limit is recalculated annually and due to an increase in the contribution ceiling for 2019 the minimum wage limit for a Blue Card EU changes:

The minimum gross salary for 2019 is 53,600€ per annum or 4,466€ per month.

For understaffed professions (especially scientists, mathematicians, engineers, medical doctors and academic specialists in information and communication technology) the minimum wage limit is 41,808€ per annum or 3,484€ per month.
