Delay in Visa and Passport Processing Due to Technical Problems

On Friday June 12, 2015, the Bureau of Consular Affairs announced a delay in Visa and Passport processing caused by technical problems within its systems.

Effect on Visa Processing:

Especially applicants who submitted online applications or were interviewed for visas on or after June 9^th should be aware of delays in the processing. It is caused by technical difficulties within the security check system. As a consequence, consulates are not able to print visas at the moment.

Effect on Passport Processing:

Also passport applications accepted on or after May 26^th are affected. If an applicant wants to travel within the next 10 business days, he is asked to get an emergency passport at the U.S. embassy or consulate at which the original passport was requested.
