India extends visa-on-arrival scheme to 180 countries

The Indian government has decided in February to extend the country’s visa-on-arrival scheme to 180 countries, including Germany. The new facility is expected to be in effect from October 2014.
The new scheme allows visitors to India with the purpose of tourism to apply for their visa online and collect it directly on arrival at any airport. This means visas do not have to be applied for at the consulate or embassy in charge. Tourists will be allowed to stay up to 30 days in India with this new scheme.
The Indian government will use the next 5-6 months to built up the necessary infrastructure. It expects this improvement will boost tourism and helps to facilitate visa processes.
