Minister for Migration Aydan Özo?uz attended first Educational Exhibition of Germany for refugees, asylum seeker and migrants in Passau
On 25 July, 2015 a first and unique exchange between regional enterprises, refugees, asylum seekers as well as migrants took place in the buildings of AOK Passau regarding the possibilities of apprenticeship in various industries. The first “Educational Exhibition” of this type pleaded in favor of “Diversity in the labor market”, organized and in implemented by the Economic Forum of Passau and ICUnet.AG.
The exhibition was the culmination of the project “FAM”. Also known as the “Model of Passau”, this initiative relies on interculturally accompanied language courses and promotes integration in the regional labor market. The “Model of Passau” gives practically orientated answers to relevant questions about the regional refugee issues. Aydan Özo?uz, the Federal Government representative for migration, refugees and integration, personally participated in the educational exhibition.

This exhibition makes me proud. It touches my heart,” praised the Minister for Migration, Aydan Özo?uz, who also has an immigration background. Aydan Özo?uz personally came to Passau to visit the very exhibition and to praise the overall project as a successful model for integration. The “Model of Passau” is about initially offering refugees a intercultural qualification, before they start a language course. By learning central German terms as “German punctuality” or high “German objectivity”, international project participants on average graduated with better results.
“Consequently, ten percent of refugees already received an apprenticeship or employment contract. The project ‘FAM’, run by the Economic Forum of Passau and ICUnet.AG still is unparalleled so far in Germany,” reports Dr. Fritz Audebert, CEO and founder of ICUnet.AG.

In the buildings of AOK Passau nearly 100 refugees, asylum seeker and migrants exchanged ideas with about 100 participants of regional enterprises as well as representatives of politics, employment agency, AOK and different charity associations. The initiative not only supports refugees in finding an apprenticeship or traineeship, it also offers a unique chance for the German labor market to counteract the increasing loss of professionals by tapping into their international potential.
In the presence of the Minister of State, Aydan Özo?uz, an actual example was set during the panel discussion moderated by Dr. Fritz Audebert. Two training contracts as well as one further employment contract were signed on stage. Mohammad Aref Khalid Ahmadi, who escaped with his family from Afghanistan to Germany on foot, enriches the team of ICUnet.AG as an intercultural consultant with his extensive international expertise and his unique identity.
Welcome to Passau – The city of Bridges, where bridges between refugees and employers are built
Identity was also part and keyword of the very ‘FAM’-Event. Passau as the City of Bridges takes a leading role in the integration of refugees. This topic has been vividly accompanied by a book of ICUnet.AG entitles ‘Identity builds bridges – Welcome to Passau’ which seeks to further encourage successful integration. At the example of a typical book of graduates, the Economic Forum and ICUnet.AG introduce up to 50 refugees and asylum seekers, each singularly portrayed by an own profile and associated cultural country profiles.
“We are pursuing a particular objective of integration: refugees, asylum seekers and migrants should not be illustrated as a vast mass, but as single identities, while every of them should be perceived as an unique chance for the German labor market,” explained Veronika Hackl, Head of Corporate Communications and Marketing of ICUnet.AG.
Another publication was introduced that serves to further assist refugees in integration. An initiative by regional supporters, doctors, AOK Passau and ICUnet.AG is just working on the “Ärztebuch”, in German, French, English, Arabic and Dari, which should ease medical consultation for refugees in the future. “What makes the booklet special and highly important is that not only linguistic barriers but also cultural characteristics are taken into account. For instance, how should a German doctor know which challenges the Ramadan poses to daily intake of tablets,” explains Dr. Audebert, CEO and founder of ICUnet.AG
